The Ancient Paths - Episode 24: The Sabbath
This is the twenty-forth episode of the Ancient Paths television program, hosted by Pastor Jason Wallace. In this episode Pastor Wallace picks up where he left off last time in regards to speaking about the Sabbath. He takes a very long call from an LDS viewer dealing with all aspects of the Gospel. The program airs on Wednesday nights at 8:00pm on KTMW-TV20, a station that is available in Utah and parts of surrounding states. The program is hosted by Christ Presbyterian Church of Salt Lake City. This episode aired on 06/04/08.

Just a quick question for you. What did Jesus mean when He said "Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath" (Matthew 24:20)?
Another scripture that strongly points to Sabbath keeping is in Isaiah 66. Prophesying of the new heaven and earth it says the following: "As the new heavens and the new earth that I make will endure before me," declares the LORD, "so will your name and descendants endure. From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all mankind will come and bow down before me," says the LORD. "And they will go out and look upon the dead bodies of those who rebelled against me; their worm will not die, nor will their fire be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind."
How would you explain these texts?
Hi Jason, I am an SDA. I have just a few issues with what you said about SDAs.
Firstly, if you want to argue about the seventh day Sabbath, do not argue with us. It was the Seventh day Baptists that convinced us that the seventh day was the correct day for worship. SDBs have been worshipping on Sabbath much longer than we have.
Secondly, you point to Acts to show that Sabbath was changed to Sunday. However, there are far more instances in Acts of Jew and Gentile Christians worshipping on Sabbath (Acts 13, 16, 17, 18). Furthermore, "the breaking of the bread" on the first day often cited by other Christians was actually referring to a closing Sabbath ceremony on Saturday night. The first day was counted from sunset Saturday, and Paul proceeded to preach to the crowd from sunset until midnight. He was giving instruction to the followers as he was leaving the next day. The text actually says "he spoke to the people because he intended to leave the next day", not because the first day was now Sabbath. There is no indication that this was Sabbath worship. How does this indicate that Sabbath was changed to Sunday?
Thirdly, equally as weak as the other arguments you put forth for the change of day for the Sabbath, was your contention that Jesus rose on the first and therefore Sabbath changed to Sunday. Well we argue that Jesus rested all of the Sabbath and arose on Sunday. So Jesus kept the Sabbath in life as well as in death.
Fourthly, please find a verse in the Bible that identifies the Lord's day referred to in Revelation with Sunday. There isn't any. In fact there are references in the OT that identify the phrase "the Lord's day" with the seventh day Sabbath.
Lastly, as you stated, the ten commandments were written by the very finger of God. It was God who commanded us to keep the seventh day Sabbath. He wrote this on stone. Furthermore it is the longest commandment. He puts, by far, the most detail into this commandment so that their would be no confusion. Additionally, when Jesus came, He kept the Sabbath. Concerning the law, He said "not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished." He said that not a single little stroke would be removed from the law. So if you want to suggest that the Sabbath was changed to Sunday, you had better demonstrate that God clearly changed this day. The verses you cite certainly do not negate what God had written by His own finger on the mountain. To contend that the Sabbath changed to Sunday based on some uncannonized gospel and a few verses in Acts that don't actually say what you want them to say is very, very dangerous.
So nowhere in the Bible does God change Sabbath to Sunday. In fact Paul, in Hebrews 9, affirms the seventh day Sabbath in unequivocal terms. If you want to contend that the Sabbath is still relevant for Christians today, there's no getting away from the Seventh day, as SDBs and other Christians have found from studying their Bibles. It's not just an SDA thing.

Seeing that you are not Catholic and don't follow the Pope does that make your church a cult?
